Transports

Everywhere in Senegal

  • The Taxi 7 Places : They are Peugeot 504 or 505 converted to public transport.Seven can fit in these cars, thus the name of the vehicle. These cars are the quickest means of public transport as they do not stop until their final destination (except for quick maintenance if necessary). These cars are generally comfortable, this said, the back seat is not recommended. In any case, it is possible to reserve several seats, or the whole car to increase comfort. For the rates, see the table below.

  • The Minicar : A little less spacious than the 7 places, these buses are thus a little cheaper. They also assure the transit between large cities, with several stops along the way. Fifteen passangers must fill this vehicle before it leaves the gare.

  • The Car Rapide : It is the cliche of African transport with its merchandise on the roof. More than thirty people can be stuffed into the larger ones. These buses are mainly used for small distances in the bush, where ever there is pavement. They stop frequently to load or unload clients or merchandise. This makes it the slowest, but the cheapest transport with a guaranteed atmosphere. Taken from the side of the road, count roughly 100 FCFA for every 10 km.

N.B. : These distances might not seem long, but it is better to provide ample time for each stage as the roads are not always in good condition nor are the cars. Also, the transports don't leave for the trip unless they are full, there is no schedual.
